Transfer Out of CSU

In order to transfer to another college or university within the United States, you will need to transfer your SEVIS (immigration) record. By transferring your SEVIS record, you will avoid having to pay the SEVIS (I-901) fee again.

Submit Your Transfer-Out Request

Before an immigration advisor can transfer your record, you will need to do the following:

  1. Complete the Departure eForm
    • Upload a copy of the admission letter from the university in which you wish to
      transfer.
    • Provide the date you want your SEVIS record transferred to your new school.
      • Please keep in mind that you may no longer study or work on campus after the SEVIS transfer
        date.

Please note: Depending on the time of academic year, it may take up to 7-10 business days for our office to process your request once our office receives your request.

Students on OPT

Students who have remaining time on their OPT and wish to transfer their SEVIS record to a new school need to be aware that their OPT authorization ends once their SEVIS record is transferred. Be sure to pick a transfer-out date that falls after your desired end date for your OPT. Once a SEVIS record is transferred, all work authorizations end and you must stop working immediately.

Getting Ready to Leave

  1. Student Account: Check your student account on RamWeb to be sure you don’ t have a balance. Transcripts and diplomas cannot be released until your student account shows a balance is due.
  2. Transcripts: Have your official transcripts mailed to your new school.
  3. Housing: Fill out a vacate notice at least 30 days prior to your departure. Make sure you have your apartment checked out completely and that everything is clean so your deposit will be fully refunded. Be sure to cancel utilities if needed.
  4. International Office: Fill out a Departure eForm to initiate your Transfer-Out request. Make sure you upload a copy of your new school’s admission letter and, if they require one, a copy of their Transfer-In document.
  5. Community: Leave forwarding address with the Post Office, credit card companies, banks, cell phone companies, etc.

Arriving At Your New School

Make sure that you arrive at your new school in time for any required orientations or check-ins as well as to allow you time to pick-up your new I-20 that your new school will create for you.
